ISTHMUS - ONTOGENY
The "ONTOGENY" collection is a visual exploration and an integral part of the larger "ISTHMUS" project, blending the worlds of photography, 3D simulation, and artificial intelligence (AI).
ONTOGENY is a chapter in the broader conceptual and interdisciplinary project known as ISTHMUS—an exploration that weaves together photography, 3D simulation, and artificial intelligence in pursuit of a renewed understanding of becoming and formation.
This body of work focuses on the visual representation of the stages of human embryonic development, utilizing a custom AI-based model trained on high-resolution images captured at the Pathology Museum of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
Developed using Stable Diffusion technology, the model reimagines the embryonic growth process not merely as a biological phenomenon, but as a generative aesthetic experience—one that reconstructs and reinterprets its subject.
ONTOGENY offers an alternative image of the human: a being in formation, not within the womb of nature, but in the depths of algorithm. This collection includes 14 pieces, which are available as nft on the foundation platform
Ontogeny, the development of an individual organism from conception to maturity, encapsulates the intricate stages of growth, differentiation, and maturation, culminating in the formation of a fully developed organism from a single cell. It encompasses a series of transformative processes, including cell division, specialization, and organ formation, shaping the unique characteristics of an organism.
